WELLER TO PLAY JAPAN DISASTER BENEFIT GIG

On April 3 Weller will join Beady Eye, Graham Coxon, Primal Scream, Richard Ashcroft and The Coral to play a special show at Brixton Academy in aid of the British Red Cross Japan Tsunami Appeal.

The show is being held to raise money for Japan following the devastating earthquake and tsunami on March 11.

Almost 8,500 people have died in the disaster with thousands injured and with nearly 13,000 people still missing the need for an immediate response is immense.

The Japanese Red Cross has been working on the ground since the disaster struck, mobilizing 85 teams - made up of 700 doctors, nurses and support staff who have provided first aid, healthcare and assistance in assessing the damage and the needs of the communities affected.

Speaking about the show, Paul said: "I really wanted to do something to show solidarity and sympathy with the Japanese people. Japan is a place I've been to many times in the last 30 years. I've made many friends there and have been treated very well.

"They are a kind race of people. My heart goes out to them. The line up is great for the show and its gonna be a brilliant night."

"We've always had close ties with Japan and great affection for our fans out there. We've been saddened by the horrific TV images of the disaster. Our hope is that this benefit concert can help the people of Japan." - Liam Gallagher

"We're glad to be able to support such a great cause and help the people of Japan in any way we can." - The Coral

"We are humbled to play the Japan Disaster benefit and help in contributing to the relief efforts and as Mani is unable to attend due to prior family commitments, are pleased to announce we will be joined for one night only by Sex Pistols legend Glen Matlock." - Primal Scream
